Some types of paper products (Totally depends on your experience, skills, printer quality as well as the intricacy of the project and quantity.) Some fun projects are invitations (under 50 people), table numbers, place cards, escort cards and menu cards.

Bride & Groom signs, Candy Bar signs, Bathroom Baskets etc.

Special little details like cake topper, drink stirrers, etc.

Favors (Depending on how many guests you have, of course!)

Sign in/guest book (There are so many cool things to do now for “guest book” alternatives! Try wishing boxes, wishing trees, photo albums (if using a photo booth.)

What NOT To DIY

- Linens – For Pete’s sake, please just rent linens. It’s such a waste of money to buy them or make them yourself – unless you want a very specific pattern or look, then that’s a different story! Standing for hours and ironing linens and tons of napkins is not fun and is very time consuming. Trust us, we do it every day! And lets not even talk about the 20 loads of laundry you have to do to wash them all.

- Flowers – I know for a fact that flowers require different types of care – like how roses take longer than 24 hours to be pretty and open and tulips should stay cold. Unless you happen to have a friend or family member who is a florist, let’s leave this one to the pros. Plus, you are going to need someone to set them up and your bridesmaids will be busy getting ready.

Food – Do you really want family members having to worry about making food the morning of your wedding? Another thing to just leave to the pros.

Of course there are a few other things too, but these listed are generally what every wedding has. Just keep in mind, if you are going to DIY, do it early. This will give you time to try it out and see the outcome. The last thing you want is to DIY your flowers only to discover  that you are the worst florist on earth 4 hours before your wedding….we have seen it happen

Yes there are tons of options when it comes to linens and No, white linens are not cheaper than other colors. Specialty linens, yes. But a plain white polyester linen is made of the same exact material that a plain pink or black or green polyester linen is made of. Therefore, the same linen with just a different color, and thus, the same price.

 So if you’re trying to go with the less expensive route, you don’t HAVE to have white linens. The only exception to this rule is if you are renting them from your venue. In this case they may charge you more for colored linens however this is mostly because hotels generally only stock white linens. When you request another color they have to rent them from another linen company. To make a profit they often charge you more but in that case they are probably charging you way more than you should be paying for linens to begin with! So, it’s best to get pricing from a real linen company to begin with.

I tell every bride that visits our showroom that unless white is one of your wedding colors or you are working with a budget that won’t allow you to spring for anything other than what your venue is offering, Please, Please, Please!! add some color to your tables. Even if its just a pop of color from a $5 table runner or a colored napkin, anything is better then a room full of boring white linens with matching white napkins.

See? You can still have affordable, polyester linens without having to sacrifice the style and design of your wedding! Imagine if any of these tables had white linens- the whole look for every single table would have been completely lost. And of course there are also gorgeous specialty linens, but that’s a different post!

So the myth has been crushed! White linens are NOT the cheapest option – unless one of your colors is white of course.

Time and time again I get brides who ask me “Why are linens so expensive”! To which I respond…”Not all linens are expensive…silk cost more then polyester”! Kennedy Couture Linens offers a wide range of linens in different price points. From $5 polyester table runners to $275 custom hand beaded silk cake table linens. Higher-end fabrics, fabrics with intricate detail and custom items cost more and it’s important to keep this in mind when selecting your linens. When selecting wedding linens or any wedding detail for that matter, be sure to follow my three golden rules of price shopping:

1.Be upfront and honest with your vendors about what you can afford to spend
2.Be realistic about the look you are trying to achieve and the budget you have set
3.Be flexible and open to exploring similar looks or items within your budget.

Clueless about linens and fabrics? Here is a helpful pricing guide based on fabric. Keep in mind prices will varie from company to company but this should give you a starting point.

Polyester Linens-This is considered a budget linen and is the least expensive floor length linen. Prices will range from $11-$15 per linen for a standard 120″ Round Linen.
Satin Linens-This can be anything from Lamour, Brushed Satin, Bridal Satin or Charmeuse Satin. Expect to pay $18-$25 per linen for a standard 120″ Round Linen.
Taffeta Linens-This includes Solid Taffeta, Pintuck Taffeta, Crinkle Taffeta, Twisted Taffeta etc. Expect to pay $25-$28 per linen for a standard 120″ Round Linen.
Standard Specialty Linens-These linens are higher end linens and include popular fabrics such as Ribbon Taffeta, Button Taffeta, Crinkle Shimmer Satin, Nova, Silk, Shantung (Duponi). Expect to pay $35-$45 per linen for a standard 120″ Round Linen.
Couture Linens-These include linens with lots of detail, beading or 100% silk linens. Linens like our Satin Rosette and Taffeta Lily Pad. Expect to pay $50-$100 per linen.
